Structured cabling leads: Cat5/6 and telecom in new construction

Every new house and building needs its data, phone and TV runs before the walls close. These counties have new projects near the low-voltage prewire - the time to call the builder about Cat5/6, fiber, coax and the network panel.

Questions

When does structured cabling go into a new house?

With the rough-ins: after the framing passes and before the insulation. The walls are open, so the Cat5/6 and coax runs go in fast. After the drywall it is a retrofit.

How do I find structured cabling jobs in new construction?

Build Radar reads the public building permits and their inspections. It shows each house's build stage, the builder and the phone numbers on file, so you can call while the walls are still open. You can start with 3 free projects, with no card.

Where is the most new construction?

Palm Beach County, FL (2,980+ projects), Spokane and Eastern Washington, WA (1,920+ projects) and North Seattle, WA (1,680+ projects). The list on this page shows every county.

Where these numbers come from

Build Radar reads the public permit records of each county and city - the permits, their status and their inspections - and puts every new building on one map. These counts were made on Oct 21, 2026.

Each number is rounded down to the nearest 10, and a number under 10 is not shown. Finished houses, cancelled or expired permits and permits a year old with no recent inspection are not counted. Each dot on the map is moved to its own spot inside a square about 450 m across, so no dot sits on a house.

Inside the app each project shows its build stage, the builder, the plans when the county posts them and the phone numbers on file.
